Husker Radio Updates
If you are a Nebraska Cornhuskers fan and like to listen to Husker Radio, you’ll be pleased to know that they are broadening their viewer range into Texas thanks to NTN Communications. NTN has delivered Nebraska Cornhusker football on the air for well over a decade now. Around 2005 NTN was in serious need of donations so they could continue to broadcast football for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Husker Radio Broadcasts were originally paid for by a series of donations made by patron support as well as sponsorship donations made by a variety of businesses with direct connections to the University or the State of Nebraska.
The year 2004 was a tough one for Husker Radio. Less than 2 months before the start of the season, NTN was rejected by KSKY 660 AM, which was the home for Husker Radio since 1996. As of this time frame, the radio station was in jeopardy of closing its doors. Not only did they need monetary commitments from it’s members, but they needed lots of time commitments as well if they were going to stay around and make things work for everyone.
Producing an entire season of Husker Radio broadcasts isn’t an easy job at all. You are responsible for collecting money from advertisers to make sure you can afford to stay on the air. In the past, plenty of influential business owners with ties to the team or the State of Nebraska were able to meet the financial goals of Husker Radio. They were even able to reach the viewers in Texas. But the problem was many of them bailed out due to financial difficulties and couldn’t continue to provide to necessary support to keep the radio station afloat.
Bob Van Horn is a big player at Husker Radio and deserves credit for the many hours and sweat he put into making sure the radio station keep blasting out air waves to Nebraska and parts of Texas. From selling ads to raising funds to resolving technical issues that arose. It’s a hard job but someone has to do it. Try sitting through a Saturday without the Cornhuskers playing on it and that can amount to a very depressing situation as a football fan. And Nebraska is known for a high ratio of citizens who are also football enthusiasts. Our research as of a couple days ago shows NTN is going strong now and it looks like Husker Radio is doing great as well. Whatever NTN did, the Nebraska Cornhuskers look like they have a lot to look forward to.
