Dan Klecko signed a 2-year contract Monday with the Philadelphia Eagles, who plan to convert him from defensive tackle to fullback.
The 275-pound Klecko has played defensive tackle and special teams and served as a short-yardage fullback for the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts. The Eagles will use Klecko as a full-time fullback.
“Everything I’ve ever done at fullback has been very raw,” Klecko said. “This is going to be a whole learning experience.”
The Eagles did not re-sign last year’s starting fullback, Thomas Tapeh. Also under contract is Jason Davis, who spent last year on the practice squad.
Klecko said he will need to lose about 20 pounds to play fullback.
“I have to come to camp thinking I don’t have a job,” he said. “I have to work for it.”
In 47 games, Klecko has 39 tackles and three sacks and has caught four passes for 20 yards and a touchdown. He also had a touchdown catch in the Colts’ 2007 AFC championship game win over the Patriots.
A native of nearby Marlboro, N.J., Klecko played at Temple and was a fourth-round pick by the Patriots in the 2003 draft.

Tight end Ben Utecht signed an offer sheet with the Cincinnati Bengals for a three-year contract.
The fourth-year pro is a restricted free agent from the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts can keep him by matching the Bengals’ offer within a week.
The 6-foot-6, 251-pounder from Minnesota has played 41 games with 30 starts for the Colts. He has five postseason starts, including the Colts’ Super Bowl victory last year. Utecht played in 14 games last season, with 31 catches for 364 yards and one touchdown.
The Bengals said Friday they wouldn’t be required to compensate Indianapolis with a draft choice for Utecht, who entered the NFL as a college free agent.

The Atlanta Falcons re-signed Joey Harrington on Wednesday, one week after cutting the six-year veteran quarterback.
General manager Thomas Dimitroff, who also has re-signed Chris Redman to a two-year deal, has said the team will take a quarterback in next month’s NFL draft.
The 29-year-old Harrington started 10 games last season, but he returns as a probable backup—the role he would have played before Michael Vick’s legal troubles.
Also returning with Harrington and Redman is D.J. Shockley, who missed last season with a knee injury.
Though the names of the quarterbacks haven’t changed, they presumably will be listed in a different order than at the beginning of last season, when Harrington was the starter.
Redman started the last four games and, according to Dimitroff and Smith, will have the first shot at the starting job in 2008. Redman was selected NFC offensive player of the week after passing for four touchdowns and 251 yards against Seattle in the final game of the season.
Even after re-signing Harrington, the Falcons are expected to add a quarterback to the competition as early as the No. 3 overall pick in the April 26 draft.

The Cleveland Browns added depth up front by signing free-agent offensive lineman Rex Hadnot to a two-year contract on Monday.
The 26-year-old Hadnot was originally drafted by the Dolphins in the sixth round of the 2004 draft. Hadnot made 55 starts the past four years with the Dolphins.
“The Browns are fortunate to add another quality lineman to our existing group,” Browns general manager Phil Savage said. “With his versatility and experience, we feel great about having Rex on our team. He brings size, strength and has a physical style of play.”
