The Best Hope for the Rams Will Come out of LA

Dec 21

The absolute best hope that we as Rams fans have to getting this team back on track will be at the LA Summit that is going on right now between the heads of the organization (John Shaw and Jay Zygmunt) and Head Coach Scott Linehan.

It seems in the past that when Coach Linehan hired his Coordinators and his assistants, for the most part, he was hiring his “buddies”. I’m sure he felt that he would be better off working with people he knew and could get along with. Obviously, this hasn’t worked. My fear right now is that this is what will be used to determine who he hires as an Offensive Coordinator to replace Greg Olson, instead of going after the most qualified candidate.

The first and most important step to getting this team back on track is a good Offensive Coordinator. I realize that they have to concentrate on getting better player talent as well, but that talent will go to waste if they don’t have a qualified Coach.

I am hoping that team President John Shaw and Jay Zygmunt get Coach Linehan to hire the most qualified Offensive Coordinator. In my opinion, that is Cam Cameron. I like a lot about Coach Cameron. When you view what he has done in his previous positions (minus Miami), he spreads the ball around and uses the talent on the field effectively to score points. This, last I checked, is what creates wins. Back when the Rams won the Superbowl in the 1998 season, Shaw and Zygmunt made Coach Vermeil hire Mike Martz. The rest is history there. Maybe this is what needs to be done again…but soon.

If the Rams waste too much more time debating on who they should hire, the best candidates, especially Coach Cameron, will be gone as they are highly sought after by other teams. The Rams need to get with it and get this thing done and get a qualified Offensive Coordinator hired or the 2008 season will be just as bad as the 2007 season. Which I might add, could have been worse at 3-13, but not by much.

Time will tell as the LA Summit is happening right now. We should know in a couple of days if the Rams are serious about getting this team on track or not. So, for now, all we can do is wait and hope they do the right things.
